At Hoe Bridge School, our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) curriculum ignites curiosity and fosters innovation. Through hands-on projects, real-world applications, and inspiring trips, children engage with each subject in meaningful ways, developing problem-solving skills and creative thinking.
By exploring interconnected disciplines, our approach to mixed subject learning helps children see the real-world relevance of their studies. This cross-curricular foundation not only deepens their understanding but also prepares them for future education and careers, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
STEAM is not just about knowledge—it’s about thinking differently.
Pupils are encouraged to apply their creativity and problem-solving to real-world scenarios. Through collaborative projects and interactive workshops, they develop critical thinking skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.
STEAM learning extends far beyond textbooks. Year 5 students experience an unforgettable away day at Chessington World of Adventures, applying concepts like velocity, friction, and structural engineering to thrilling roller coasters. Before the trip, they explore sustainability and the impact of construction, then return to school to present their findings using digital tools like Microsoft PowerPoint.
For Year 7 and 8, STEAM reaches new heights through immersive projects and industry collaborations. A highlight is a cruise on the Paddle Steamer Waverley, giving pupils hands-on experience that brings learning to life and deepens their understanding back in the classroom.
The pinnacle of the curriculum is the electric car project, where pupils deconstruct and rebuild an electric car, immersing the children in many different aspects of the STEAM curriculum and their context in the ‘real world’.
Apart from the learning and satisfaction involved, they experience a number of memorable project highlights. These include working with engineers from the locally based McLaren headquarters and racing the rebuilt vehicle at Goodwood, meeting competitive teams including some from universities.
