Creative Arts Senior July 2024

Creative Arts

Art & Technology

Within our Senior School, our dedicated and hugely talented Art and DT Department will continue to inspire confidence and a passion for innovative design, whilst challenging pupils to be imaginative and push themselves to try new techniques.  The pinnacle of excitement for Year 7’s is our Kit Car Team – where boys and girls will race the Kit Car at The Goodwood racetrack in the Green Power F24 Heats.  We will also have regular trips to galleries and workshops with other artists which will continue to stretch our children and inspire them to have a lifelong love of art and creative expression.

Art and Design and Technology will be embedded into our curriculum for our pupils to continue to feed their imagination fostering creativity and digital skills, challenging them to master techniques that develop self-expression at their own pace.  We are excited to introduce Engineering as a GCSE to develop pupils’ design and problem-solving skills through theoretical and practical work using several computerised techniques.

Drama

Drama is a thriving department here at Hoe Bridge. It plays a key role in students social and personal development, offering a creative environment and safe space in which to develop skills, self-esteem and confidence.

Our new Senior School auditorium, with the latest technology, affords plenty of opportunities to perform front of house as well as be involved behind the scenes with the technical and lighting team. All facets of performing will give cast and crew a true insight into life on the stage. We see pupils developing their unique voice and refining communication skills - vital for strong interpersonal relationships with friends, family and to succeed in life beyond the classroom, as well as creating some lasting memories for all involved.

We are thrilled to have Drama on our GCSE curriculum, as well as a scholar’s programme, which will nurture the gifted and those with great potential in this area. With links to Conservatoires, The National Theare and the National Opera House as well as regular school trips, we are excited to see how Drama will continue to play a key role within our Senior School.

Music

For those who play music in our Senior School, they will be equally at home with classical music as they will be with contemporary rock and pop. With a dedicated computer suite for GSCE musicians housed in our new Senior School, pupils will have all the state-of-the-art facilities they need to succeed in this area. We will also be introducing a biannual Senior School music tour for vocal and instrumental ensembles as well as many outreach workshops with local musicians, the Royal College of Music and the Yehudi Menuhin School.

For those who take Music GCSE, we will have a dedicated computer suite with Sibelius and Logic to enable our musicians to empower their creativity. Our Composer in Residence will inspire cross curricular creative projects culminating in themed performances, all of which will feed into composition work for GCSE.
